At Oran Mor Artisan Mead we love creativity and diversity, playing with all the possibilities nature has to offer. One of our main focuses is bringing locally grown and unusual varieties of fruits and pairing them with local and varietal honeys, herbs and spices, to create unique combinations that showcase the richness of the Umpqua Valley's Orchards, Vineyards and Apiaries. We draw from tradition as well as pushing the boundaries of what Mead can be.
After years of playing Mad-Scientist in the kitchen, tripping over brew buckets, and throwing one new idea or another into our bubbling brew, we have come up with a series of Meads, Melomels and Metheglins that dance through the seasons using what ever fruits and honey's that are at their perfection. As such we will have a constantly rotating variety of Meads, produced in limited batches.
Myths and Legends, Deities and Heroes dance across our bottles and inspire our creations. Mead has an ancient past, and rich history, and is mentioned time after time in Celtic, Norse, Roman, Greek and even Egyptian mythology and sagas. Many cultures considered Mead to be the drink of the Gods, the elixir of life, the inspirer of poets and heroes. And so we weave these tales, myths and legends, into our mead and into our story...
One of the oldest drinks in the world, Mead has inspired poets and warriors for centuries.
Ancient recipes with a modern twist. We blend old world knowledge with the latest technologies and brewing techniques.
We draw inspiration from old myths and new stories. We hope you'll join our tale.
What is Mead?
Mead in it's simplest form is a divine fermentation of Honey, Water and Yeast. But we humans rarely keep anything simple, so throughout history we have continued to be infinitely creative in our Mead making. Fruits, spices, herbs, flowers, and grains have been added creating many different types of Mead.
Our CEO and Mazer (Head Mead Maker), Lilly is the passion and artistry behind Oran Mor Artisan Mead. Our resident Desert Rat turned Cellar Rat and COO, Michael has braved the jungles of Oregon to be our Cellar Master, Tasting Room Manager, and Mechanical Genius. (He keeps us all from falling apart, in more ways than we can count!)
Our Founding Father! He provides guidance and council, and is a driving force behind Oran Mor Artisan Mead. His profound knowledge and wisdom are a constant source of inspiration and clarity in the Meadery!
She is our amazing and talented Artist and her husband Andrew Overdorff, who does systems consultation for Oran Mor, and their irascible cat Muffin. Besides designing Oran Mor's labels and logos, she and Andrew are working on developing a series of comic books based upon the worlds they have created.
